YRR = easier Yacht Racing Results

Example showing how YRR produces the results

The Main Menu, which appears when you start the program, is shown below:

As you can guess, a click on a button is all that is needed to access a feature.
The centre black "console" is all that needs to be used most race days.
A lot of the buttons are self-explanatory. Some lead to further similar screens with lots of buttons, such as the Setup and Handicaps buttons.
The little question marks, "?" , provide instant Help on the particular button, usually describing what it will do and how to make best use of it.

On race day you start with step 1. by clicking the button beside 1, then enter the day's date  to get the screen below which gives you the Race ID's (each race has it's own Race ID) for each of "today's" races and their start times. The start times can be altered if they are not correct. "op" is the Optimist Class, "pc" is the P Class, and "st" is the Starling Class etc. Each of these are well established classes in New Zealand. You would create classes to suit your racing.

After returning to the Main Menu you select Step 2 and you get the screen below where you select the yachts which have turned up for today's races.

The list below is part of a list which contains all the yachts which have sailed at your club. Initially the list is blank, but each time a new yacht turns up you type its details at the bottom of this list, and it then automatically reappears next time. So selecting the yachts is generally easy.

You will note that the yachts are listed in class order (la,on,op...) and then number order within classes. You can easily change this, to list them in say number order, by clicking on the red heading "Number". The yacht numbers are fictitious to protect the innocent, as are all other details!

You will also note that the headings Club, Skipper, Class, Number, and Select are all red, while Yacht Name and Crew are blue. This tells you that when typing in a new entrant you must put information in the red columns, while the blue columns are optional.

Below I have selected 4 Lasers (la), 4 Open class (on), and 5 Optimists (op) who have entered for today's races. There are other entrants and I would select them after scrolling down.

When you have selected all the yachts in today's races you click the button "Keep the selected yachts" and this screen appears. It contains all the "selected" yachts.

Note the  Keyboard Tips & Help buttons at the bottom of this screen. Similar help is available throughout YRR.
The "I forgot someone" button lets you add others to this Finishing Times screen. Think of it as your Rescue Boat.

Below I have shown the completed Finishing Times screen. To start with you enter the Race ID's for today's races, which you got earlier (see the start times screen above). Then as each yacht finishes you double-click in its finishing time box to make the finishing time appear, and lastly you select "dnf" (for Did Not Finish) from the drop-down listbox to set the Status of a yacht which withdrew.

All that remains is to click the button "Click when results are completed" to produce these results which you can then print out. The page selector at the bottom will let you see the other pages for this day's results.

As "Club Membership Required" = Yes for these races, visitors can join in but will not be allocated places. They will however be shown in their finishing time order as has happened to Open-Class yacht 43 who is not a member of Paradise Bay Yacht Club. You can of course alter this setting so that they get a place.
